Book Review on Sujata Parashar's IN PURSUIT OF INFIDELITY ~ ECSTASY

In Pursuit of Infidelity ~

"Girl child is born … she is a good daughter … the good daughter has an arranged marriage (barring a few of them who have a clandestine affair and then a love marriage, but of course both kinds have same fate after that), … becomes a dutiful wife, … then the wife becomes a responsible mother … and then the rest of her life remains a good daughter, a dutiful wife, and a responsible mother who keeps struggling with life for something or the other. And mostly her fights are for others. She loses sight of her own self, her own likes, needs, desires.”

>>> and falls in love with another man (her college senior and a long lost crush)… and indulges into physical and emotional relationship.

Later on she discovers her husband’s infidelity. Her understanding… justifications to her own infidelity… emotional conditions and detailing really satisfied me as a reader.

Infidelity can transpire in relation to physical closeness and/or emotional closeness. The blow of infidelity is said to be not only about sex outer surface of the relationship, but also about conviction, treachery, two-faced and unfaithfulness. Sexual infidelity by a marriage partner is universally called philandery, betrayal, or an affair.

It is very creditable how the author got into the mind of the characters and wrote the contemplations, feelings, and reactions with straightforwardness.

In Pursuit of Infidelity has some really fascinating and surprising twists which makes the book ~Unputdowable.

In Pursuit of Ecstasy ~

A youthful and appealing story… is full of dazzling insights on the lives of urban teenagers Aparajita, Deepanita, Aniket, and Siddharth. These college students want to live life on their own. They belong to rich families. Hide things and lie every now and then from their parents.

Parents busy in their own lives have either no time for these kids or have high hopes from them on their own terms and conditions.

“…We think of our parents as just a necessary machine, who are a constant in our lives. As those who provide for our education, entertainment and as people who are always nagging us saying, “don’t do this, don’t do that. Do this, be like your father, and listen to your elders.” >>> “…with due respect… parents are too busy to care or assume their role so seriously that they overlook the fact, that we are also individuals, each one of us is different and with unique personality and strength. You can impose on us to behave or do things against our basic nature nut sooner or later we will either give up or just move away.”

~Aparajita – enjoys arts very much and is keen on becoming a choreographer rather than an economist (her father’s dream). ~Deepanita – wants to join and help her father’s business but her parents want her to get married and settle down. ~Siddharth – a good guy gone bad… misses his dead grandmother every now and then as his parents are all the time busy in either work or some public or private events. ~Aniket – with a nagging mother… self praising father… becomes addicted to alcohol.

These characters like any youngsters have crushes… fall in love… argue > lie > hide things from their parents > enjoy their freedom… ONLY >>> to stumble upon ~Ecstasy… and Drugs Peddlers!

Prologue is very interesting. It builds curiosity…
‘Fast-paced’ is an understatement… for In Pursuit of Ecstasy

Once I finished reading the introductions of all main characters which is divided in sections… I realized 40% of the book was over. It is that attention-grabbing. Rest of the book till the climax is like, experiencing a roller coaster ride. The message for youth on their desires, beliefs, and values is very much satisfactory.
